Visakhapatnam: City-based engineering student D Sanmitra successfully accomplished Facebook PyTorch Challenge Scholarship. He is studying third year B Tech in a private engineering college and stood in top 300 students across the world to accomplish the scholarship and successfully graduated from the Deep Learning Nano Degree at Udacity.
The Facebook PyTorch Challenge Scholarship was a scholarship given by Facebook to the students across the world who want to excel in the field of Artificial Intelligence. It was announced on October 2, 2018 and they accepted the applications till October 23, 2018. They announced the results of Phase-1 on October 30, 2018.
As part of phase-1, they selected 10,000 students across 149 nations and provided a two months coursework on Introduction to Deep Learning at Udacity. The aim of the project is to ‘Developing an images classifier which classifies 102 different types of flowers’. The accuracy of the model is also considered as a metric for the selection of phase-2.
“I successfully completed the project in phase-1, and also developed a side project on ‘Predicting the disease of the plant using Deep Learning,’ it predicts the disease of the plant by examining the leaf of plant with mobile camera and suggests the preventive measures for disease. My contribution to community by helping each other on solving the problems of others and leading a study group called Novice AI all these lead me to the selection for phase-2,” Sanmitra said.
Depending on the metrics the organizers selected 300 students among 10,000 students for phase-2 and provided a full scholarship to pursue Deep Learning Nanodegree at Udacity. Finally, he graduated from Deep Learning Nanodegree.
